Copyright

Copyright is a bundle of exclusive rights that is granted to the author of a creative work. Examples of works that can be copyrighted include a book, movie, song, photograph, painting, design, architecture or computer software.

The rights granted include rights to make copies, make derivative works, permit others to make copies, and sell as well as market the work, and do a performance of the work. These rights can all be sold or separately licensed via transfers of the copyright ownership.

Upon creation of the work via tangible expression medium, copyright rights are acquired automatically. The Copyright Office provides additional benefits to the copyright owner when the work is registered.
